| Daniel Peet, Objects for Every Day Shooting Series |
Today, Friday, April 19th, 2013 from 6 to 9PM, Gallery Diet will inaugurate an exhibition entitled "In Proximity" (On view through June 1st) by JJ and Daniel Peet. A Q&A session will begin at 7:30PM.
Working with such a nearness in relationship, the Peet brothers come for the first time as a duo to exhibit in Miami -this is JJ's second show at Diet- showcasing photography, painting, sculpture, film and installation.
Their proximity in space and time did not change their shared interest in the arts. Very nearly, both siblings were raised in a natural state on the banks of the Mississippi River, completely unrestrained in pursuit of pleasure.
Their communication would often be sporadic with remembrances of earlier conversations, intermittent pictures and short emails. The games of their youth informed many bodies of work for each of them; in the form of photography for Daniel, and sculpture, film and installation for JJ.
The sons of an antique dealer mother and a father who owned several small businesses in Saint Paul, Daniel, the elder, raised three children and JJ went to the University of Minessota where he received his BFA in 1999 and later in 2006, he received his MFA from Yale University.
Daniel Peet’s photographs are a visual tour of the disarming, forgotten, and astonishing scenes he came across through the streets of his hometown, Saint Paul, Minnesota. In addition, he has made large photographic panels featuring what he calls "Everyday Objects."
On the other hand, JJ Peet has produced paintings, sculptures, film and drawing inside a series of small studios which have allowed him to be more reflective and personal observing current affairs with a distance creating works that are in direct response to his environment and personal experiences.
