Today, Friday May 10th, 2013 at 10AM and 11:30 AM, The Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark, in collaboration with Nest of Living Arts, N.O.L.A., will present a  performance entitled "Through The Red Door," an hour of dance, music and spoken word to make a strong stand against bullying through the arts.

Presented in collaboration with the City of Miramar and the Broward School District, the event is an important focus for school’s Anti-Bullying Campaigns.

During this one-hour performance, N.O.L.A children and adolescents will provide the audience with the opportunity to explore the issues and the importance of their own role in combating bullying.

This wonderful opportunity is being offered, free of charge, to Broward elementary and middle schools students within the Miramar, Everglades and Flanagan school zones.

The Nest of Living Arts founder and director French-born Nolwen Lalanne has personally taking a strong stand against bullying with a commitment to teach Broward school students about this issue through successful performing events that raise awareness and change people’s attitudes.

During this production, students are asked to stand up and take a pledge called “Silence is Participation.” The show also includes videos of students in the audience giving testimonials about their bullying  experiences.

According to Camasha Cevieux, Deputy Director of the Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark, there were 261 reported incidents alone of bullying in Broward County’s schools last year.

“Kids are killing themselves because of bullying” said Sade Lalanne, one of Nola’s two daughters who was born with a rare chromosome disorder and whose bullying incidents during childhood were equally matched to her older sister's.

Christopher Navarro, GreenHouse choreographer at NOLA said that too many young adolescents are targeted by bullies whose intimidating actions exert physical and emotional pain.

“The worst is cyber-bullying, and today we need to address this epidemic and find a solution,” added Navarro.
